
Rabies Vaccine
Rabies is a severe infection that affects the brain and nerves and is almost always fatal once symptoms appear.
The Rabies vaccine helps protect you against rabies and is recommended for people who at higher risk from travel or through their work.
The rabies vaccine is used to help prevent rabies and to help stop you getting symptoms if there’s a chance you’ve been exposed to rabies.
Mode of Transmission
Rabies is usually caught from the bite or scratch from an infected animal (ie cat, dog, bat, monkey)
Rabies can be transmitted from animal to dog throughout the world particularly in Asia, Arfica and Central and South America
Rabies Vacccine
Rabies Vaccine is usually given in 3 doses
Normal regime is given on days 0, 7 and 28 days (third dose can be given from day 21 if there is insuficcient time before travel)
Accelerated course can be given in 7 days if necessary
Preventing Infection
Avoid contact with animals whilst travelling such as cats, dogs, monkeys.
When to vaccinate
Vaccination of rabies should be given ideally 5 weeks before you travel to ensure protection
