How the tablets work
The tablets contain norethisterone, a hormone that keeps the womb lining in place while you take them. You take one tablet three times a day, starting 3 days before your period is due. Your period then usually arrives 2 to 3 days after the last tablet.
Things to know about period delay
- You can delay a period for up to 14 days
- It is meant for occasional use, not every month
- The tablets are not a contraceptive
- They are not suitable if you have had a blood clot or certain other conditions
Your consultation
The pharmacist will ask about your health, your cycle and any medicines you take, and may check your blood pressure. If period delay is suitable, they will explain exactly when to start. Try to come in at least a few days before your period is due.
