What is Cholera

Cholera is a severe diarroeal disease that can be fatal within hours if not treated, quick access to treatment is cruicial.

Common Symptoms

Sudden onset of profuse, watery diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting

Administration

Cholera Vaccine is given as a drink.

A powdered sachet mixed with 150mls of water. Dukoral suspension vial is added to solution. Resultant solution is consumed within 2 hours

Transmission

Foecal-oral route (ingesting contaminated food and water)

Affected Countries

Found worldwide although the disease is more prevalent in poor hygiene areas

Preventing Infection

Taking additional food/water precautions such as avoiding food prepared in places with potentially poor hygiene standards.

Water purification bottles are recomended.

Frequent hand washing and taking strict hygiene measures are recomended
