Saxenda

Saxenda is indicated for weight reduction in adults living with obesity, for use together with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity
Saxenda works for weight loss by regulating your hunger and calorie intake. As a glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, it lowers hunger stimulation in several areas of the brain, which reduces your food intake. Saxenda also helps your stomach digest food more slowly, which causes feelings of fullness
The dosage is ONCE DAILY at any time, independant of meals. The injection site and timing can be changed without dose adjustment. It should be used around the same time of day at a convenient time
The pen should be used with disposable needles upto a length of 8mm and as thin as 32G (needles not included). NovoFine or NovoTwist needles are suitable to use with the Saxenda Pen device.
Patients must have a BMI of 30kg/m2 or more, or of at least 27kg/m2 and have a risk factor or a health condition that is affected by weight
Liraglutide is for Subcutaneous use only, it should be injected in the abdomen, thigh or upper arm

Starting dose is 0.6mg ONCE daily, increase by 0.6mg each week to a maximum of 3.0mg (see table below)
The dose is increased slowly to improve gastrointestinal tolerability. If increasing the dose is not tolerated, delay by a further week
If escalation to the next step is not tolerated to 2 consecutive weeks, consider discontinuing treatment
Missed Doses: If a dose is missed within 12 hours from when it is usually taken, the patient should take the dose as soon as possible

Saxenda starts to work within a few hours of your first injection, however to see weight loss effects this may take a few weeks
If your weight has not decreased by 5% in the first 6 months of using Saxenda, we may stop your medication

Each Pen has 18mg of the active drug, the number of doses will depend on what dosage you are taking
Upon receiving the pen follow the instructions given to you by your pharmacist or the information leaflet given
